Texas Trail Drive - "Legend". . . . or "Intro" as Tom called it. This is the first in the historically accurate series of famous oil paintings of the Texas Frontier Trail Drive. The depiction is of the famous route of the trail drives originating in South Texas and crossing the South West, eventually delivering the Texas Longhorn herds to California during the 1849 - 1860 era; and what an adventure in oils it is! In the Legend we see the rich historical expertise of artist Tom Jones. Note the detail in the weapons skirting the painting, saddles, Texas longhorn cows, percussion cap & ball weapons, spurs, boots, and the attire of the two famous heroes of the South West: the Texian Cowboy and the Mexican Vaquero. The map shows us that the Trail Dive will lead through Comanches and Apaches on their Mustang horses. Tom said we could find each painting numbered on this highly detailed map. "As an artist for the prestigious Company of Military Historians and Collectors for over 30 years, Dad was world renown for his detailed knowledge of historical weapons, including handguns, knives and spears."
