Texas Trail Drive - # 6a "Apache Attack". . . . This painting is remarkable for the close detail up-close and progressive foreshadowing. This is a clear illustration of some of the hardships the cowboys endured. Here we see our "Trail Boss" riding
his gorgeous white riding mule with elaborate red tack (head stall and matching saddle blanket, and he has on a matching bandana) coming at the stylishly clean trot to intersect with the raiders. This is THE MAN. Notice the detail of his riding style: seating deep in the saddle, heels down, leaning forward to receive the recoil of his cap & ball musket! The animals are weary, he is firm with resolve, the Indians are slamming on there hocks.
